A SUPERSONIC jet-powered car is to be the main attraction at Newcastle Motor Show next month.

The Bloodhound, the world’s most powerful land vehicle, will be on show in the shadow of Grey’s Monument, on August 4 and 5.

With 135,000 bhp, it was built to beat the current world land speed record and smash the 1,000mph barrier.

Another of the major showstoppers in this year’s schedule will be the return of the live action stunt driving by world renowned stunt driver, Paul Swift.

He will perform three shows on the Saturday of the show and is expected to draw huge crowds of people keen to see the stunt action.

Old Eldon Square, Grey Street and Blackett Street will all be turned into a giant exhibition space with over £10 million worth of cars on the city’s streets.

Themed zones will be mapped out across the city centre dedicated to different types of vehicles and motoring, from racing cars to Land Rovers of all shapes and sizes as well as hands-on motoring themed fun and activities for all the family.

Ben Whitfield, marketing and events manager at NE1 Ltd, said: “We’re so excited about this year’s event, each year it gets bigger and better and we’re gearing up to wow the crowds with the range and quality of the exhibits and the extended exhibition area with Blackett Street a key part of the action.

“A major coup is to secure the Bloodhound Supersonic Car and offer the people of the North-East a unique opportunity to see the world’s most powerful land vehicle here in Newcastle.

“Across the whole weekend, motoring enthusiasts and car aficionados will be blown away by the range and quality of the exhibits while family day-trippers will be entertained by the huge spectacle and the events and activities on offer in the Fan Zone. There will truly be something for everyone.”
