A YOUNG make-up artist has won a major competition with a global make-up brand after beating scores of other professionals.

Sophie Peach, from Catterick Garrison, was crowned winner of the NYX Face Awards in London on June 28 after flying through three rounds of make-up challenges and going up against 2,000 entrants.

Miss Peach had originally entered the competition with no expectations and only the hope to promote her work.

She said: “I’ve only just started taking make-up seriously but I’ve always been into art. I do illustrations and I like to build things.”

To enter the competition, hopefuls had to create a Youtube channel where they demonstrated their creative flair through make-up tutorials – the wackier the better.

Each round of the competition asked for a different theme such as Animal Kingdom Glam, Punk Extravaganza and The Art of Makeup.

Miss Peach said: “It’s more like treating your face like a canvas and creating expression that way. It was about taking make-up to the next level.”

As her prize the 19-year-old will travel to LA, where the brand NYX is based, to meet winners from other parts of the world and receive a make-up class led by top artists as well as £10,000.

She is hoping her victory will help boost her social media following as she aims for her future career.

She said: “It took my brain a few days to process what happened. I was shocked. I wasn’t expecting to win at all."

Sophie Peach’s work can be found on Instagram under the name Goth_spectrum and also on Youtube.
