AN AMERICAN football team is helping youngsters in the North-East to learn the game.

NFL franchise Jacksonsville Jaguars is bringing its grassroots programme ‘JagTag’ to schools and youth clubs in the region.

It has teamed up with North-East team Gateshead Senators – the aim being to get more young people playing the sport in the UK.

A spokesman said: “This is extremely exciting for the Jaguars who can’t wait to spread the love of the NFL across the country.”

JagTag has been running in London since 2015 and has had more than 3,000 children get involved.

Jacksonville Jaguars are owned by billionaire Shahid Khan, who is currently bidding to buy Wembley from the Football Association.

A free JagTag taster day is being held on Monday July 9 at the Gateshead International Stadium, in Neilson Road, Gateshead, between 10am and noon and 1pm to 3pm.
