BURGLARS used a blowtorch to force their way into a house during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Three men are believed to have used the torch to break the front door lock of a property in Lockyer Close in Newton Aycliffe.
Once inside, they made an untidy search of the house before making off on foot.
The occupants of the house were not in at the time and it is not yet known if any items have been taken.
Reports locally suggest the men were searching for the car keys of a vehicle parked on the drive.
Police are now investigating the incident, which occurred between 2.45am and 3.15am.
