RUNNERS are being urged to sign up for an event held in memory of a much-loved commentator.

The Ali Brownlee Riverside Run, which is being organised by Everyone Active on behalf of Middlesbrough Council, is taking place on Saturday, July 1.

The event is organised in memory of the 'Voice of the Boro', who died in 2016 after a battle with cancer.

After initially competing in the event, he went on to commentate on every Middlesbrough 10k and Riverside Run.

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member with responsibility for sports development, said: “The Riverside Run is a lasting celebration of a much missed character, and is a firm fixture on the regional running calendar.

“It’s a challenge for all the family, and its growing popularity is a testament to a great event.

“I’m looking forward to another fantastic event that will do Ali proud.”

Entries will close on Monday, June 25 and numbers are limited.
