A BOMB disposal unit was called to carry out a controlled explosion after a member of the public reported finding unexploded ammunition thought to be from the Second World War.
The incident occurred on Sunday lunchtime on the beach at Seaton Carew, which was subsequently cleared.
Police officers joined an army bomb disposal unit from North Yorkshire at the scene.
A spokesman for the Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team thanked members of the public for their patience.
