THERE were smiles all round in a Teesdale village when hundreds of people gathered together for the annual summer fair.

Organisers of Ingleton Village Fair and Classic Car Show pulled out all of the stops to ensure the popular event on Saturday was a success.

The large collection of vintage vehicles on show looked especially impressive against the picturesque backdrop of the surrounding countryside, while the music of Middleton and Teesdale Silver Band added to the jolly atmosphere.

Other highlights of the event included a climbing wall, a dog show, a raffle, bouncy castle and various stalls selling plants, crafts and cakes.

There were also plenty of traditional games to enjoy and a children’s fancy dress competition, which saw the entrants celebrate the recent wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Bacon butties and cakes baked by villagers were also on sale and donations were taken on the day to help cover the cost of the event.

Committee member Judith Pressley said: “There is so much support for the event in the village. We had lots of volunteers here this morning helping us to set up. There is a core group of about eight people who are key to making this happen, including Hazel Whitehead who really is the driving force behind the fair.

“A special thank you must also go out to Ian Cartwright who has been absolutely fantastic.”

Ingleton Village Fair was resurrected in the early 2,000s and has grown in size and popularity over the years.

This year, the event attracted people of all ages from far and wide, with the classic cars proving a big draw.

Mrs Whitehead, who was awarded a British Empire Medal in 2016 in recognition of her services to the community, said: “It is lovely to see so many people here today enjoying themselves.

“We do this for the community and it’s really nice to know that people appreciate what we are doing.

“We take donations to help cover costs. It is not about making money, it is about bringing people together.”
