A LORRY caught fire on a slip road exiting the A1(M) in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident happened on the northbound exit slip road at junction 53, leading to the A66 and A6108.

The fire has been extinguished and the cab detached from the trailer, which caught fire.
The road remained closed for several hours due to damage to the carriageway caused by the fire but has now reopened.
