DAY facilities for residents with autism and learning disabilities in a North-East town have received a boost after plans to invest in the service were approved by councillors.
Stockton Borough Council's cabinet has voted in favour of refurbishing Ware Street Resource Centre to accommodate more people.
The investment will see the range of services increase, which councillors say will better meet individual’s needs.
The centre will be decorated throughout with quiet areas and areas for personal care created.
After the work is complete, the centre will be able to accommodate 20 people.
The development will also allow the centre to offer flexible services at weekends and evenings.
Cllr Jim Beall, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “This is a major investment to improve this fantastic service and upon completion the capacity at Ware Street will be more than doubled to better meet a growing demand.
“This is another example of how the council is protecting and supporting vulnerable people to lead fulfilling lives by prioritising these kinds of services at a time of ongoing reductions in our government funding.!
The service will temporarily move to Tithebarn House, Hardwick, whilst the refurbishment is taking place.
