TWO men were arrested after taking off in a golf buggy and driving it to a McDonald's drive through.

The men, an 18-year-old from Richmond and a 19-year-old from Pickering, were stopped by North Yorkshire Police in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

They were caught in the buggy at the McDonald’s on Richmondshire Walk, Catterick, at 3.45am and were both arrested on suspicion of taking without consent.

The 19-year-old was later de-arrested and he will be dealt with as a voluntary attendee at a later date.

The 18-year-old, who was driving the buggy, was arrested on suspicion of taking without consent and drink driving.

He has been charged for drink-driving and given a police warning for burglary and aggravated TWOC.

The buggy has been returned to its owner.

The North Yorkshire Roads Policing Group took to facebook to describe the incident as 'the most unusual job of the night'.

They added: "A golf buggy was reported 'driving' through the drive through of a popular fast food chain in Catterick.

"Pre-emptive box utilised to avoid a high speed pursuit."
