A ROLLER hockey team is sporting a smart new look thanks to support from a social housing provider.

Spectrum Roller Hockey Team, based in Willington, received £480 from County Durham Housing Group to replace youngsters’ faded and ill-fitting kits with colourful new strips.

The Group funding officer, Damian Pearson, said: “The team provides great opportunities for the young people involved. Roller hockey is a great way to keep fit and being part of a team helps everyone involved grow in confidence and take pride in their community.

“Our group grant programme was created to help grass roots clubs and organisations like Spectrum Roller Hockey Team. What might seem like a small amount of funding can make a major impact.”

Encouraging groups to apply, he added: “The application process for ‘group grant’ has been kept deliberately simple and funding decisions will be made monthly to ensure local groups are not waiting for lengthy periods to find out if they have been successful.
