A HORSE has been freed from a sinkhole thanks to the teamwork of her rescuers.
It was a fairy tale ending for Tinkerbell, who was rescued on Saturday from a sinkhole in a field in Woodstone Village, near Fencehouses, Chester-le-Street.
The crew leading the rescue was High Handenhold fire station’s red watch crew and they received a call shortly after 11.15am reporting that the horse had its legs stuck in the hole.
Minutes later a second call received by the crew was that the horse was now submerged up to its chest.
A spokesman for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said the fire crews used ‘working at height’ ropes and a Land Rover to successfully pull Tinkerbell to safety.
