RESIDENTS in Seaham are hoping that new measures will help tackle problems caused by nuisance bikers.
Pedestrian chicanes have been installed on two footpaths in the Parkside area of the town.
The work, in Cherry Grove and Aspen Way, follows complaints from residents about people on motorbikes and quad bikes riding on the pavement.
The improvements, which coast just under £5,000 have been funded by county councillors Kevin Shaw and Leanne Kennedy through their neighbourhood budgets.
Neighbourhood budgets for the area are delivered through East Durham AAP.
Ian Moran, community development project officer, said: “Residents have raised concerns about people riding motorbikes and quad bikes using these particular footpaths to cut through the estate.
“They were often travelling at speed and, therefore, endangering the lives of pedestrians.
“Hopefully, these measures will put a stop to that behaviour and offer reassure to people that the footpaths are safe to use.”
