POLICE are appealing for help from the members of the public public after some distinctive jewellery was stolen in a recent burglary.

The incident happened at a house on Earsdon Road, Houghton-le-Spring, between 9am and 3.30pm on Thursday February 15.

The offenders gained entry via the patio doors off the rear garden, stole the items pictured above and then made off through the same patio doors.

One man, Anthony Newell, 30, of Baker Street, Houghton-le-Spring, has been charged with burglary on February 27, and is due in Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing on April 13.

The offenders stole a number of items of jewellery, including (pictured) platinum ring, charm braceletm, Virgin Mary pendant on gold chain, blue-faced police watch, Flip4 speaker, silver train containing son’s first lock of hair, Peter Rabbit money box.

Also stolen were a wedding ring belonging to the victim's deceased grandad, inscribed Hendrik Loda London 12/01/52, and a war medal in the name Leoladia Rybacki.

Police are carrying out inquiries to reunite the victim with the stolen goods, some of which had significant sentimental value to the victim.
