THE possibility of the mothballed Stillington and Leamside lines being re-instated for passenger use will be on the agenda at a public meeting of Railfuture North-East.

The campaign group, which also wants a new station to be built in Ferryhill, County Durham, is pushing for faster and more frequent rail services throughout the region and new or improved trains.

It is holding a public meeting this Saturday, March 17, at 2pm at Newcastle Arts Centre, in Westgate Road, Newcastle.

Ian Coe, principal transport planner for the North East Combined Authority, is a guest speaker and will be discussing a transport plan for the North-East.

The meeting, which will incorporate the branch’s AGM, will include refreshments.

Members of the public will also have the chance to sign up to Railfuture should they wish.
