A NEW pavilion for footballers which will house changing and storage facilities has been given the go-ahead.

Plans have been approved for a pavilion on Swalegate playing field in Richmond that was submitted by chair of the football club Jon Rutherford for training and matches.

The proposal includes an extension to the existing car park for 14 spaces.

However, many residents expressed concerns over the possibility of an increased level of anti-social behaviour.

Police suggest the installation of CCTV, lighting and secure cycle storage.

The force states all seating should be stored away when not in use to reduce the chance of it becoming a gathering place.

The pavilion will measure 13.5m long by 5.4m deep, with a small veranda across the front and a lean-to store on the side.

It was recommended to be approved as “the proposals will enhance existing recreational facilities in the area, without harm to the general character of this part of the town and without significant adverse impact on the amenities of nearby residents.”
