A WOMAN has been arrested following an arson attack at a rural caravan park.
Durham Constabulary confirmed the 41-year-old was arrested late last month on suspicion of arson after a house at Dale View Caravan Park, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, was set on fire.
The incident happened in the early hours of January 31.
Five fire crews from the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) tackled the flames which took hold of the building quickly.
Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the fire and significant structural damage was caused to the building, rendering it unsafe.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
A spokesman for CDDFRS then confirmed an investigation had taken place and the fire was being treated as suspicious.
A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that a woman had been arrested on suspicion of arson but had been released while officers continue their enquiries.
She said: “We can confirm a 41-year-old woman was arrested on February 28 on suspicion of arson.
“The woman has been released pending further enquiries.”
The caravan park owner, Leanne Palethorpe said she was "devastated" by the fire but thanked all those involved. Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting reference 26 of January 31.
