The A66 has been closed after a serious accident.
UPDATE: The road has now been partially re-opened.
Highways England report that the restrictions east of Scotch Corner have been lifted and police have completed their clear-up and recovery.
A SERIOUS accident on the A66 is causing long delays.
Six vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision between Scotch Corner and Bowes.
According to Highways England the road has been closed in both directions and debris has been strewn across the carriageway.
Police are at the scene and motorists are being urged to approach the area with caution.
