A PUBLIC house with links to the North-East’s railway history has been re-listed for auction.
Locomotion No 1 pub, which sits opposite the platform of Heighington train station, Newton Aycliffe, was listed for auction last month but no bids were made.
Dating back almost 200 years, the former Heighington Station is where the pub’s namesake and first steam locomotive to run on the Stockton and Darlington Railway was assembled in 1825 - heralding the start of the railway system in Britain.
It was up for auction in December at the Gosforth Marriot Hotel, in Newcastle, with a guide price of £230,000 and is being auctioned once again with a reduced guide price of £210,000.
Chris Watson, of Events DTV, which is handling the sale on behalf of the owner, said: “People have been out to see it so hopefully it will generate some interest from people who want to do something positive with it.
Bids are being taken now, according to agentspropertyauction.com
