TIMETABLE changes have seen a boost to Sunday services to and from Middlesbrough railway station.

Hourly services were introduced yesterday between Middlesbrough and Nunthorpe, with an increase up to 14 daily services between Middlesbrough and Newcastle via Sunderland.

Travel to Whitby will also run year-round from Middlesbrough.

Mike Paterson, regional director at Northern, said: "We are just a couple of days away from timetable changes that will offer new travel options for customers in the region."

Northern’s oldest pacers trains are set to be removed from the network as part of a regeneration programme due to be completed by 2020.

Mr Paterson added: “Over the next two years, our customers will see further improvements as we work to modernise our stations and facilities. We will also continue to improve our current fleet of trains to include more space, better seats, and wifi, and we will seek to reduce journey times across the North-East."
