A COMMUNITY centre has a brand new kitchen which it hopes to help it attract new users.

Belmont Community Association was given £23,170 from the Banks Group to put in new facilities at its centre in Gilesgate Moor.

It now has new windows, electrics, plumbing, flooring, cabinets, worktops, sinks, cookers, fridges and freezers.

Mick Bennett, from the association, said: “We are very grateful to the Banks Group for making this latest part of our ongoing community centre upgrade possible, and we’re certain that all our users old and new will make great use of what’s now on offer.”

Lewis Stokes, from the Banks Group, said: “Belmont Community Centre plays a central role in local community life, and it’s great for us to be able to support such a worthwhile project right on our own doorstep.”

The community centre is used by dozens for groups, for activities including tea dances, craft fairs, table tennis, martial arts sessions, a craft group and the Cheesy Waffles and Wider World special needs groups.
