A MAN in his 30s has died after being struck by a train at Northallerton station on Sunday afternoon.
The East Coast Mainline was halted for several hours after the incident shortly after 3pm.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "A 38-year-old man has sadly died after he was struck by a train at Northallerton station on Sunday afternoon.
"Officers were called to the station shortly after 3pm and attended alongside paramedics.
"The man’s family have been informed.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Virgin Trains East Coast reported yesterday that disruption was expected until the evening on the mainline after the incident.
