WATER polo playing youngsters from County Durham were snapped up by clubs across the UK for a national competition.

Six members of Sedgefield Water Polo Club were invited by other teams to battle it this month at the National U15 Age Groups (NAGS) competition at the Manchester Aquatic Centre.

Ella Boyer, 13, and 14-year-olds Poppy Stephenson and Jessica Webb earned a silver medal playing for City of Sheffield.

Matthew Taylor, 14, and 12-year-olds Ben Alderson and Ryan Jay Griffiths played for Rotherham and finished up in sixth place.

Vicky Alderson, club secretary, said: “On behalf of Sedgefield Water Polo Club, we are very proud that our players are being recognised for their talents by other clubs.

“They are showing great team spirit by working with other clubs to gain valuable experience for their future sporting careers.

Anyone who is interested in joining the club can arrange a free trial at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

The club has spaces available for all age groups.
