THE brother of a man who took his own life line has paid tribute to him.
Billy Etchells said the death of his youngest brother, Alan Etchells, at Chester-le-Street Railway Station on May 14 had come as a terrible shock.
An inquest in Crook yesterday heard how Mr Etchells was struck by an oncoming train.
The inquest also heard the 46-year-old, of Gateshead, had become isolated following his father’s death, despite repeated and ongoing attempts by his family to socialise with him.
PC Amanda Timlin, of the British Transport Police, confirmed Mr Etchells had not left a note and his family had received no indication of his intentions.
Coroner Crispin Oliver returned a conclusion of suicide.
Billy Etchells said: “He was my youngest brother and only 46. He was a smashing young lad. None of the family saw this coming.”
