A TOWN council is to start imposing car parking charges at it's car boot sales to help raise more money for charity.
Bedale town council operates one of the busiest weekly car boot sales in the area at the town's park offering local charities the chance to run them to raise make money for their organisations.
Now councillors have agreed a charge of £1 should be made for cars parking on Bedale Hall Park with 80p going to the charities, and the rest going to cover staff. The charities also receive money from sellers at the car boot and any money raised through collections on the gates.
Charities regularly raise hundreds of pounds. Town councillors also agreed to increase the charge to charities to run the sale from £110 to £120 to help cover additonal costs. Money is refunded if the sale is cancelled because of bad weather.
