A MAN has been arrested and two cars seized as part of an operation to tackle organised crime.

As part of a multi-agency approach, officers from Durham Constabulary on Wednesday visited the Honeypot Lane Caravan Site, in Elm Tree, Darlington.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Two cars were also seized.

The male is currently assisting police with enquiries.

The pre-planned operation was coordinated by North East GAIN and involved a number of partnership agencies.

A commercial premises in the Bishop Auckland area was also visited as part of the action which resulted in a number of potential offences being identified by partner agencies, however no arrests were made.

Detective Inspector Nicola Lawrence said: “I would like to thank all of the agencies who came together to take part in this proactive action.

“Our communities can be assured that we will act robustly when we suspect offences have been committed.”
