ACCIDENT: Man seriously hurt when his Land Rover overturns at bottom of Penshaw Monument Picture: Google Street View
POLICE are at the scene of a serious collision in Sunderland.
At police received a report that a Land Rover had overturned on Chester Road, at the bottom of the Penshaw Monument, around 2.30pm this afternoon
Emergency services attended and the road has been closed in both directions to assist those who have attended the scene.
The male driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Nobody else was inside when it overturned.
Diversions are currently in place at the Shiney Row roundabout but there is a lot of congestion in the area and drivers are asked to try and avoid the area.
Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 608 16/06/17.
