STUCK for something to do this weekend? Let us help

Here Come the Girls, exhibition at The Station, Richmond, opens on Saturday
Myopic, middle-aged, Northern artist Sue Dewhurst, currently based in Richmond, whilst studying Dales life in acrylic paint. This exhibition focuses on the agricultural shows of the region in her distinctive bright and bold palette.

Watch out too for Sue's acclaimed Barns series, now available as limited edition giclee prints. We're also proud to introduce the Richmond contingency of 'Owd Lasses'. These ladies are the glamour-pusses of yesteryear; living out their dotage in splendid indifference, mischief-making in wrinkly tights, reminiscing about their misspent youth on the back row of the Zetland Cinema and generally cocking a snook at Modern Britain.

Here come the girls. Come and meet them, if you dare... Runs until May 24.

Tocketts Watermill will be demonstrating how wheat is milled in a traditional way to produce wholemeal flour in this survivor from a former age.

The technique which produced this most basic food material for over 800 years using mill stones is now producing the very distinctive wholemeal Tocketts flour from wheat grown in a neighbouring village.

Visitors can see how the 18ft diameter waterwheel turns vast cast iron gears to eventually rotate one ton millstones at 120 rpm - an awesome sight. This fully restored Victorian mill has four floors all with their original machinery intact so that the ingenuity of the design can be appreciated. In addition there are replica querns which children love to use for a little DIY flour production!

There is plenty to interest young & old alike – all aided by enthusiastic guides. And on National Mills Day there will be samples of baking from the flour to whet the appetite. 01642-722897.

Things really begin to heat up when a double wedding is announced, but just who will be marrying whom?

Heritage Opera makes its first visit to The Georgian Theatre Royal with Mozart’s pithy morality tale, full of beautiful music and unforeseen moral dilemmas. This performance is sung in English by a cast of six professional singers, accompanied by piano. Tickets on 01748-825252.
