OLYMPIC gymnast Amy Tinkler has been nominated for a title from one of the British sporting calendar’s most prestigious awards.
The 17-year-old bronze medal winner, of Bishop Auckland, has been shortlisted in the highly respected Young Sportswoman of the Year category in the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2016.
Tinkler, who rose to the challenge in Rio this year, is up against Ellie Robinson, Catie Munnings and Siobhan-Marie O’Connor.
Reacting to news of the nomination, Tinkler said: “It has been an amazing year and such an honour to be shortlisted for the Sunday Times Sports Woman of the Year.
“To be up against such incredible athletes is really special.”
The awards ceremony, held in association with Vitality, takes place tomorrow.
Neville Koopowitz, CEO of Vitality, said: “Our congratulations go out to Amy Tinkler.
“In an Olympic and Paralympic year there are always standout individuals.”
