IT WAS a close shave for staff and students at Darlington College as they lost their locks for a charity close to their hearts, writes Kerri Muirhead.
College administrator, Samantha Stonehouse, received a buzz cut in a fundraising head shave to support cancer charities, including the Kieran Maxwell Legacy to find cash for the Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust.
The inspirational 18-year-old from Heighington, who studies at Darlington College, recently vowed to spend the rest of his life having as much fun as possible after being diagnosed with the rare form of terminal bone cancer.
Before the charity head shave, Ms Stonehouse, said: “I have never fundraised and I jumped at the opportunity.
“Cancer is a horrible, nasty disease and Kieran is an absolute smashing young lad. He is an inspiration to everybody, every time you see him his face is beaming.”

Kieran’s support worker, Rob Mazur, who also shaved his head in support, said: “It is raising awareness for Kieran, the type of cancer he’s got and trying to help raise as much money as we can to help fund a research project.”
Staff and students alike were involved in the charitable event, including 23-year-old personal training student, Daniel Baxter.
Mr Baxter said: “It is a great way to show care and awareness to everyone.”
