WHITE Ribbon Day will see men across Darlington vow never to commit or condone violence against women.

On Friday, November 25, supporters of the White Ribbon Campaign will renew pledges and make vows to do all they can to combat domestic abuse.

Men are invited to visit Sainsbury’s on Victoria Road between 10am and 2pm to pledge never “to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls.”

The campaign is supported by Darlington council leader Bill Dixon and County Durham and Darlington’s Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner Ron Hogg.

Mr Hogg said: “It is important that victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence have the awareness and confidence in the police to report offences, and are supported throughout the criminal justice system.”

Cllr Dixon added: “In Darlington a great deal of progress has been made in recent years in raising awareness about what domestic abuse is and the impact that is has upon victims and children.

“There are excellent services in the town, working together has resulted in an increase in the number of victims having the confidence to report the abuse, ongoing dissemination of literature is promoting information and pathways to agencies who can offer help and support to victims.”

A statement from founders of the White Ribbon Campaign said:“We’re a group of men who know there’s never an excuse for violence against women.

“We pledge never to condone it or to stand by when we know it’s happening.”
