STOCKTON’S first ever Heritage Fayre celebrating the town’s history has been hailed a success by organisers.

Amateur historians and owners of traditionally constructed buildings in the area attended the fayre on Saturday in a marquee on the High Street.

The event featured talks and demonstrations on traditional construction skills and how to maintain historic buildings, with a particular focus on homes built before 1919.

There were also a number of live demonstrations on traditional construction skills.

Leader of Stockton Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: “Everybody had a great time, it was really good to see so many individuals enjoying all of the wonderful activities on offer.

“People of all ages were able to learn about caring for traditionally constructed homes, see building materials and construction techniques that are good for historic buildings and find more about Stockton’s rich heritage.”
