POLICE in North Yorkshire say they were twice called by a parent who wanted officers to make their 11-year-old son eat his food and behave.

North Yorkshire Police control room received the calls on Monday.

The force tweeted: "Two 999 calls from parent asking officers to go and tell his 11yr old son to eat his food and behave - we're not attending."

Officers and the public expressed their shock at the call on social media.

Richmond Specials tweeted: "This is just unbelievable! Why would anyone think this warrants a call to the Police on an emergency line?"

A member of the public added: "I think you should attend & issue a caution to the parents for wasting police time."

The Press has previously reported on the strangest calls received by North Yorkshire Police. They include a man ringing the police to complain that his bus hadn't arrived at Monks Cross and a silent call from someone who had mistaken their phone for their television remote.
