DARLINGTON businesses will learn about ambitious plans to boost the town’s economy at an event next month.

The networking and action planning event on July 18 at Teesside University’s Darlington Campus is a chance for businesses, Darlington Borough Council and Tees Valley LEP to follow up on the economic strategy for Darlington, which was developed by Darlington Partnership in 2012.

The strategy focuses on the issues and actions that businesses said were important to the development of Darlington’s local economy up to 2026.

The council and the Tees Valley LEP have plans to create 25,000 jobs in the region over the next ten years.

Attendees at the event will hear about the economic strategy for the Tees Valley and the emerging opportunities that devolution deal will bring now that it has been agreed for the Tees Valley to set up a mayoral-led combined authority.

Councillor Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy and regeneration said: “The Tees Valley has its economic strategy, and it’s important that Darlington has its own strategy as part of that, to meet the specific needs of our borough.

“Darlington has exciting opportunities in the key growth sectors of biologics, business services, sub sea, advanced engineering and logistics as well as great transport links, and I’m hopeful that we can continue to work with businesses to do the best for Darlington.”

This event will highlight what has been in achieved in the past four years and the plan for the coming years.
