NEW life has been breathed into an ancient country pub that called last orders over a year ago.
While country inns continue to close throughout the North-East, the Kings Arms at Great Stainton near Darlington is bucking the trend and re-opening its doors.
The pub, a 17th century coaching inn, is now back in business 18-months after the last pint was pulled.
And the new lease of life has immediately created six new jobs including chefs, bar and restaurant staff.
Landlady, Bev Kelly said: “The villagers have welcomed us with open arms. They’re really excited to have a local again although we hope to attract trade right across the region.
“It’s always been a popular eating house and we intend to build it right back up.”
Her partner, Liam O’Donnell will be offering three guest ales as the Kings reverts to its free house status.
The couple have already tasted village life as tenants of the nearby Blue Bell in Bishopton.
“The owner of the Kings made us an offer we couldn’t refuse,” said Ms Kelly.
“Country pubs are closing left right and centre but it’s a real pleasure to bring this one back to life.”
