A PUBLIC artwork will make its world premiere in an east Durham community - connecting neighbours together by creating an interactive chain of light and sound that weaves through the streets.

The neighbourhood of Roseby Road and Rosedale Terrace, in Horden, near Peterlee, will be transformed by VoiceOver, an art project developed by Umbrellium and Forma with local people, as part of East Durham Creates.

The event will be staged over the Easter weekend, from Friday March 25 to Monday March 28.

Neighbours, families and friends from across Peterlee and Horden will be invited to take part in the community art work by “speaking out” along the VoiceOver line.

Two VoiceOver Stations will visit neighbourhoods just before Easter. People will be able to use the station as a personal soap box to talk with someone they do not know, sing a traditional song with neighbours, or tell bedtime stories - and watch as their voices are transformed into light and sound on a journey to the other end of the line.

For more information about VoiceOver contact 07784 963877 or email at voiceover@umbrellium.co.uk

A community launch event will be held at Roseby Road Wellbeing Centre, Horden, from 3pm to 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday, February 16).

VoiceOver is commissioned as part of East Durham Creates.
