EMERGENCY services attended an accident on the A66 near Darlington on Sunday lunchtime.
The eastbound carriageway of the road was closed for a time, after what Durham Road Policing Unit described on Twitter as a 'minor injury accident'.
One vehicle, a rare Jensen CV8, was involved in the crash.
It overturned, but police said the driver escaped serious injury.
The car looked to have sustained considerable damage.
One eyewitness said: "It looked horrific when I passed.
"Emergency services had the eastbound carriage way blocked and there was a classic convertible overturned on the footpath just after the roundabout.
"It looked very nasty from what I saw."
A spokesman for Darlington Police said the incident was reported at about 12.40pm.
He said the incident has since been cleared up, and the road re-opened.
