A CRISIS-hit Northern League club evicted from its home ground has announced a groundshare deal.
Durham City AFC was “kicked out” of New Ferens Park last month, following a financial dispute between its landlords, Sedd Leisure, and its chairman, former Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard.
Last week, Sedd Leisure owners Stuart Dawson and Austin Carney offered to buy back the club at the same price Mr Bernard paid them two years ago and “donate” it to a committee if Mr Bernard agreed to step down as chairman.
However, the Citizens have announced a deal to play home matches at Consett’s Belle View stadium, while seeking to return to Durham “as soon as that is feasibly possible”.
A statement on the club website said: “The club is determined to rebuild the club on a long term sustainable basis to bring stability and success back to the club.”
It continues: “The club is very sad at finding itself in this dilemma however they are united in rebuilding Durham City AFC back to something the supporters can be proud of.”
Fans are invited to a question-and-answer evening with Mr Bernard, Consett AFC chairman Frank Bell and Northern League chairman Mike Amos at Belle View stadium on Sunday, November 29, at 7pm.
