SOMEONE will be killed - that is the message from Cleveland Police after stones were thrown at car's from a bridge over the A174.

Police are repeating the warnings after they received further reports of youths throwing stones at moving vehicles.

The incidents come weeks after a poster campaign was launched in schools across Cleveland warning people of the very real dangers of throwing objects at vehicles.

Over the weekend, two more incidents occurred on the bridge over the A174 between Dixons Bank and Ormesby Bank.

The first incident occurred on Friday, October 30 at 6.45pm when the windscreen of a silver Skoda Octavia was smashed by a stone.

The second incident took place on Sunday, November 1, when the windscreen of a green Renault Megane was also smashed. No one was injured.

Chief Inspector Dave Sutherland said: “I am extremely concerned to hear that these incidents are still happening.

“It is clear that these youths still do not understand the extremely dangerous consequences of throwing objects at moving vehicles.

The Northern Echo: TARGETING CARS: One of the footbridges over the A174 has a sign warning people against throwing objects

“Again, I’d like to repeat our message to youths: someone will be killed if these incidents do not stop. Do you want a death on your conscience? How would you feel if one of your family members or friends were killed as a result of a stone being thrown at a vehicle they are travelling in?

“I’m certain that anyone who commits these mindless acts would be devastated if they caused a serious collision or even killed someone. The parents of these children involved need to play their part in educating their children on these serious dangers before someone dies.

The Northern Echo:

“This shocking behaviour should not be encouraged. Anyone found to be carrying out such acts will face the full force of the law.”

Anyone with information regarding the youths or anyone who witnessed the incidents is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency 101 number, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
