A WILD boar on the loose in the North York Moors has been captured and taken to the vets.

The animal was spotted on the A171 near Cloughton, between Whitby and Scarborough, this morning.

A police spokesman said officers were called by a member of the public at around 8.20am today.

An officer attended and managed to get it off the road and into a car park.

The spokesman added: "There is no danger to the public or motorists at present.

"Officers are concerned for the welfare of the boar and are contacting a vet to attend."

Police later confirmed that the animal had been captured and was receiving treatment from a vet.

Although there are wild boar populations living wild in Britain, the animals are also farmed extensively for their meat.
