A LANDMARK sign above a newspaper office is being dismantled this morning and auctioned off for charity.

For years, the Sunderland Echo sign on the newspaper's headquarters at Pennywell was a familiar sight to thousands of drivers on the A19.

Now the sign’s 10ft high letters are being taken down and auctioned off on ebay to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

The Northern Echo:

The newspaper has moved its offices to Rainton Bridge and sold the site to kitchen and bathroom retailer Tecaz, which is donating the sign to the charity.
