A GRANDFATHER of three will run his fifth marathon this month to raise £1,000 for a cancer charity.
Jim Dale, 62, has been training since the start of the year and is running about 30 miles a week.
On Sunday, April 22, he will take part in the Flora London Marathon.
He said: "Fifteen years ago was the last time, so it's been quite a while. I suddenly got the urge to do it again.
"I thought, before it's too late, I will do another one.
"I thought why not do it for a charity to make it a bit more worthwhile and give me more motivation to get to the finish?"
Mr Dale, from Broomfield Avenue, Northallerton, said he had several friends who had been helped by Marie Curie Cancer Care so he decided to raise money for them, setting himself a target of £1,000. So far, he has raised £770.
Louise Bamford, North Yorkshire's community fundraiser for Marie Curie, said: "The fact that he is doing it is absolutely fantastic and all of us take our hats off to anybody that does something like that.
"For someone to put themselves through what he is putting himself through is amazing. Doing the London Marathon at any age is an achievement, but obviously not having done it for 15 years is something extra special. We will be keeping our fingers crossed he makes it round okay."
