Teesside Athletic

THE Under-8s, 10s, 11s and 13s took strong squads to play against teams from around the country.

The Under-8s entered the Under-9s category, playing six Under-9s teams in a league format. After losing the opening game to Phoenix 2-0, they chalked up their first point against South Park Rangers in a 0-0 draw before going on to beat Driffield Under-9s 3-0.

In the next game they matched Plains Farm for long periods before conceding two late goals. In the final two games they picked up more points in 0-0 draws against Montagu Boys and KYPC Tigers.

They ended the league format in a very respectful third place and progressed to the semi-final of the Plate where they again came up against Montagu Boys. In a thrilling performance once again the match was tied at 0-0. Teesside won the penalty shoot out after converting all three of their penalties, before Montagu hit the post with their final effort.

They met KYPC in the final and lost out 1-0 in a very commendable performance that left them physically drained, but to come runners up was an awesome effort from every member of the squad.

The Under-10s went into a league of ten format and produced some fine performances which culminated in a 3-2 victory in their final game against Chester Athletic to earn them the Filey Cup for the third year in succession - a magnificent achievement by all the lads in the squad.

The Under-11s entered two competitions, a six-a-side and 11-a-side and played some good football along the way. The highlight of the weekend was a 1-0 morale-boosting victory against local rivals South Park Rangers who have won their respective league.

The Under-13s also entered two competitions, and ran out worthy champions in the six-a-side tournament before taking the fair play trophy in the 11-a-side tournament.

All in all a great weekends performance by the Redcar-based club, who now need a larger trophy cabinet.

Ferryhill Town Youth

FERRYHILL Under-10s, sponsored by Joes Diner, played away to Darlington TSC. The first half saw a very even game with neither team having any chances at scoring through some excellent defending by both teams.

The second half saw a good run by Rhys Todd down the right and caught the defence out with a cross from 20 yards which chipped the keeper and put the ball in the net. Darlington started to push for an equaliser but Ferryhill's defenders Connor Cockfield and Aiden Gill held them back and an excellent save by goalkeeper Keiran Thompson ensured the win for Ferryhill. Man of the match was Rhys Todd.

The friendly didn't go the same with Ferryhill's only goal coming from man of the match Scott Tweedy as TSC ran out 3-1 winners.
