FIRE crews raced to free the dummy victims of a crashed car as they entertained crowds at a fire station’s open day.

Visitors flocked to Bishop Auckland Community Fire Station to enjoy a host of activities as part of an open day.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) firefighters from Bishop Auckland showed how they deal with a road traffic accident.

The display formed part of a competition which saw them take on fire brigade teams from as far away as Hull and Lincolnshire.

Dan Wootton, CDDFRS watch manager at Spennymoor, said: “There were several fire crews on hand to show what they could do.

“The weather did not put people off and there were loads of visitors at the station who enjoyed the activities.

“It looks like it was a successful event and everyone enjoyed it.”

The free annual event at the Green Lane station on Saturday (May 9) included many activities for visitors to enjoy.

There was also the chance to get a birds’ eye view from an aerial platform plus water rescue and animal rescue displays.

The Army and Durham Police also had displays to view at the event and there was a bouncy castle for youngsters to enjoy.
