A POST office may have to close for a week to allow modernisation work to be carried out as part of a national scheme to improve the Royal Mail.
It is proposed to carry out the work at the Post Office, on Redworth Road, Shildon, and the public’s views are being sought.
The Royal Mail wants to see the opening hours extended Monday to Saturday to between 8.30am to 9pm and from 9am to 12.30pm on Sunday.
There are several other changes planned at the branch which could mean some services removed from the store.
Any services not on offer at the Redworth Road branch will be available at another Post Office, in Shildon, on Church Street or online.
It is possible that the branch, located at the rear of a shop, could close for a week for the work to be carried out during July or August.
