A DANISH darts team received a civic welcome while visiting Hartlepool recently to help raise money for a local charity.

The Kaelderen darts team from Esbjerg spent four days in the town which included participating in a darts challenge match at the Hartlepool Supporters Club which raised £2,200 for the Miles for Men cancer charity.

Miles for Men Promotions Manager Kevin Hill is a well-known darts player himself and it was his links with fellow British Darts Organisation (BDO) members which triggered the visit to Hartlepool.

Mr Hill said: “It’s tremendous that a darts team from as far away as Denmark has travelled to Hartlepool to help us raise money for the charity."

The Kaelderen team competed against some of the best players in the world including Allan Norris, Martin Atkins, Glen Durrant, Gary Thompson, Brian Dawson, Gary Stone and world women’s No. 1 Deta Hedman.

Kaelderen team member Kenwyn Vestergaard said they had received a warm welcome in Hartlepool.

"The town has been very hospitable to us and everyone enjoyed the trip,” he said.

The charity has raised more than £125,000 since it was established three years ago. For more information about Miles for Men charity visit www.milesformen.co.uk
