MEMBERS of Darlington Flower Club enjoyed an arrangement entitled 'All That Glitters' during the club's annual open evening.

Derek Armstrong, from Carlisle, gave the talk at the meeting at Hummersknott Academy last week.

A club spokeswoman said: "Derek produced some fabulous arrangements using unusual colours and beautiful flowers to prove the point that Christmas does not have to be gold.

"He originally trained as a chef and now holds meetings for people interested in flowers and providing a wonderful lunch in his penthouse apartment.

"Derek is very involved in flower arranging and is currently involved in organising a three day event together with Visit Blackpool to celebrate the emerald anniversary of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Socities, to be held in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool in November next year.

"It will be a show of flowers, food and gifts together with a dance show with demonstrators and professional dancers.

"The open evening was well supported and the audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the demonstration and sales tables of floral decoration, home-made cakes and ideas for lots of Christmas presents."

Mr Armstrong was thanked by club president Peggy Sampson for a wonderful evening in Darlington.
