A CARE home in Willington is appealing for food donations to support a local food bank.

Pupils of Sunnybrow Primary School in Crook will visit Willington Care Village to hold a harvest festival that will donate food to the local community.

Staff and residents of the care home have teamed up to collect as much food as possible to hand over at the event, which will be donated to elderly people in the area and the food bank in Willington.

Julie Summers, an activities co-ordinator at Willington Care Village, said: “We are trying to show that even though our people live here in the village, they are still a huge part of the local community.

“It’s about making every day count for the people who live here, and this is something a bit different. It’s going to be a great day for everyone and we are all looking forward to it.

“Every member of staff is bringing at least two things from their food cupboard to donate and we have almost 300 staff.”

There are donation points around the area, including The Co-op in Willington, and organisers are urging people to donate as much as they can.
