A FORMER police officer has admitted fraud over a will said to belong to his dead father.

Darren Hart admits making false representations to the probate service which he knew to be untrue and misleading.

He is accused of signing documentation which purported to be the last will and testament of Ronald Hart – who died intestate - when it was not.

The 41-year-old defendant, of High Green, Darlington, denied a related charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice between September 8 and November 19, 2011, when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court.

No charges were put to his co-accused 27-year-old Peter Atkinson, from Mickleton, near Barnard Castle, who appeared alongside Hart in the dock.

Prosecutor Sue Jacobs indicated a decision would be taken in due course as to whether it was in the public interest to pursue Mr Atkinson's case.

Both men were bailed by Judge George Moorhouse, sitting at Teesside Crown Court. Hart will be sentenced on December 13.
