FOOD chiefs are urging food businesses to safeguard their futures by stocking locally-produced foods.

The Regional Food Group claims shoppers are being more vocal in asking where food comes from.

Executive director Karen Carlyle is urging producers in North Yorkshire to take note.

She said: "If local food is available, I'm convinced people will buy it.

"Next year, the growing demands to know the full story behind our food will get louder and louder.

"Consumers are becoming more aware of issues such as food miles and good animal husbandry."
